Welcome to the first in our series of DCH Insider! This blog gives a guest’s perspective of our holiday cottages. Our office staff always personally visit each holiday cottage so that we can tailor recommendations to our customers’ specifications. Sometimes though, our knowledge can be limited– until now! We spent the night at Sea Reach Apartment in Swanage to really get to know this gorgeous getaway…
Sea Reach Spec: Swanage location. Ground floor apartment, sleeps 4 in one twin bedded room and one king bedded room. Fully equipped kitchen. Well-proportioned lounge with dining area. One bathroom with shower over bath.
Low season short breaks in Swanage
November is traditionally the low season in Swanage. This makes it perfect for a short break to avoid the crowds while still making the most of the stunning Jurassic coastal town. Arriving at around 6pm, the streets were quiet- quiet enough to hear the sea! All was dark, chilly and peaceful. The arrival instructions and directions to Sea Reach clearly guide the way – even in the dark! We had arrived at the welcoming warm and cosy apartment.
Once you’re inside, there is nothing that would make you feel like you’re in an apartment building. Even with a lovely shared lawn just outside the French doors, we didn’t see nor hear another resident.
What to do on a short break in Swanage
Sea Reach is freshly decorated in a modern and bright style, which appeals to me as someone who likes of a feeling of space without compromising on comfort. And space is the main feeling here. There is plenty of wardrobe storage for a longer stay, even in the smaller twin bedded room. It feels clean and uncluttered, with just the right amount of decoration. A really generously proportioned lounge means that even if the house was fully occupied with 4 adults, there would be enough room for everyone to have some quiet time to themselves. That’s if you had quiet time on the itinerary! Fantastically located on the quieter side of Swanage bay, a stunning walk along the seafront to the town, as well as being in close proximity to breath-taking walks along Ballard Down to Old Harry’s Rocks, there is no shortage of things to do. But being locals, we were taking the opportunity to have a quiet night in!
A night in Swanage, Dorset
As my partner and I are from a more rural part of Purbeck, we are taking full advantage of a night in the town and collecting a takeaway pizza for dinner. It may seem like a small thing, but to us, this is extremely exciting! The benefit of town being so quiet meant very quick service! What better reason for an out-of-season break?! We laid the dining table with the bottle of fizz the owners had very generously provided for our stay, popped on the coal effect gas fire and the twinkly twig lights and settled in.
The local produce ‘goody bag’ really made us feel like we were somewhere special. Dorset Tea and Lily’s Produce blackcurrant jam- yum! This isn’t the only homely and thoughtful touch; for example there are snuggly purple throws on the back of each sofa, and a footstool. Perfect for a night with your feet up in front of the TV.
When it came to bed time, we were both glad of the king size, firm yet wonderfully comfortable mattress. There is luxurious, white Next linen, resulting in a lovely cosy night’s sleep. We barely saw each other on each side of the bed!
Facilities at Sea Reach for families
When we awoke, well-rested, we enjoyed a gorgeous cup of Dorset Tea at the table while listening to the stunning sound system – the boyfriend connected his phone and played a Spotify ‘Sunday morning’ playlist– the perfect lazy morning! We found plentiful hot water in the bathroom and enough space for us to brush our teeth side by side. I noticed there were plenty of child-friendly facilities too – a child’s toilet seat, step, potty and bath toys. This is such a lovely addition to a holiday cottage and certainly not something that you’ll find just anywhere. Packing up, we wished it had been a longer stay to make more use of the endless facilities.

Where is good for breakfast in Swanage?
After vacating Sea Reach, we took the gusty, brisk walk along the sea front to the deserted town for breakfast at Beaver’s. For a Saturday morning, we had very quick service! We each had a full English at very good value for money.
We both agreed wholeheartedly that we would not hesitate to return. Being a local girl, it’s an ideal distance away from home to make it feel like a getaway. To refresh and recharge the batteries in the sea air with all the conveniences of a modern home away from home is an ideal way to spend a weekend. I would 100% recommend Sea Reach to both couples and families for a Swanage escape.
