Looking back – 2016 Events
Swanage Events 2016
The town of Swanage play’s host to a large array of events. The highlight for us had to be Swanage Carnival. I sat with my family (with two small children) and waited for the first float to arrive. We were treated to some noisy Harley Davidson’s, which the children were welcome to come and sit on whilst the procession would its way along Swanage seafront. There are so many floats, bands and dance troups that it took a good couple of hours to pass. The weather was fabulous and we enjoyed some lovely, local ice cream on our comfy deck chairs.
The town really does make a huge effort to entertain throughout the year. Events include but not limited too; Folk Festival, Seafood Festival, Regatta, Walking Festival and Jazz Festival.
Purbeck Events 2016
Bestival is a family friendly event, hosted by the Lulworth Estate. It is primarily a music event held over several days.
Weymouth Events 2016.
Not that im greedy, but the top Weymouth Event has to be the Dorset Seafood Festival, held on the Quay. This is a large festival with a huge variety of local fayre to sample. Parking is plentiful but you will probably have to walk to the actual event. The beach and town centre are very close by.
North Dorset Events 2016
Being a more rural area, North Dorset is home to a number of excellent agricultural shows but the biggest and perhaps the best is the Great Dorset Steam Fair. Running over the several days the Show exhibits a number of steam powered vintage machines. The steam engines slowly make their way to this annual event, where you can also enjoy live music, local food, displays and a huge trade area. You can buy tickets on the day, which i always do as it does get very muddy if the weather is bad.
