Great cottage, lovely town
Lovely well equipped cottage conveniently placed for Wareham, which isn't large. A couple of issues which might concern less able visitors - the path to the cottage is not long but is at the top of a steep slope and is narrow. It might be slippery at times. The other issue is the very steep and narrow staircase. It is well lit and has hand rails both sides but we needed to take extra care with my elderly and sight impaired parents. However the other comforts, and the wonderful view down the Saxon ditch made for a very special place, and Mum particularly fell in love with the lamppost in the garden!
Extremely well equipped, ideally situated with access to a wide range of tourist attractions - Swanage, Tyneham, Poole and Arne. Some very good walks locally including the two rivers walk. Local restaurants were very good especially steak night on Tuesday. Locals were very friendly.
Delightful cottage, we will come again !
This was a last minute booking, and we were very lucky to find such a lovely cottage in such a stunning location on the old Saxon walls. We have always loved historic Wareham, and shops are only 4 minutes walk away from Westport Cottage.
The cottage has been beautifully restored, retaining all the character but with high quality kitchen and bathrooms. The weather was wet, one of us was unwell, but it is so cosy and comfortable we felt very much at home.
When we come again with the grandchilden, we hope the weather is better so that we can also enjoy the small but charming garden.
Lovely cottage so close to all the amenities.
Westport cottage is an ideal base for a holiday in Dorset. We loved being able to walk into town to eat or just sit by the quay and have a drink - we even had an evening at the cinema. The cottage is perfect there was nothing we could find fault with - the décor is tasteful and the beds are so comfy!
We have had many holidays in Dorset but this is the best location and cottage we have stayed in.
Will definitely book again.
Lovely cottage in convenient location
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Westport Cottage which is very spacious and the location was great for exploring the Purbeck area. Loved Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door and Corfe Castle, Tyneham Village & Warbarrow Beach and great walks from Worth Matravers.
Great weather too!
A home from home in a beautiful part of the world
This was a really lovely, comfortable, well equipped cottage set in a picturesque town of Wareham. It really was a great location, with ancient Saxon town walls for the children (5&3) to place on, and with an ice cream parlour, restaurants and the river all in easy walking distance.
Also convieniently located to explore the area, close to beautiful beaches (Lulworth Cove, Studland Bay), ancient castles (Corfe, NT), nature reserves (Arne, Blue Pool, Forest) and islands of adventure (Brownsea Island, NT). We will be back!
Wonderful cottage in a perfect location.
This cottage is well appointed and maintained to a very high standard. It's perfectly located in the town of Wareham just a short 5 minute walk from the town center and quay and is an ideal location for exploring the wonderful Dorset coast. Highly recommended.
a small delighful cottage, situated in a quiet location.
Cottage shown at its best when the sun shines, with small but private well kept garden. Considered good value for money, as indicated by our return visit. Another couple joined us for a couple of days, who may well stay at cottage in there own right.
Second visit to Westport Cottage and it really is such a relaxing, stylish property.
It's location is both stunning and practical for getting around and exploring, the garden s beautiful whatever the season.
All the appliances, equipment, bed linen etc is top quality which makes it such a pleasure to be there as well.
Highly recommend a stay, make it a long one, even two weeks flies by - just one regret, wish we'd have booked for Christmas, that would have been magical - maybe next year.................
Perfect cottage, very comfortable.
We had a lovely weekend. Cottage very comfortable and cosy. Great base to visit other locations in Dorset. Would highly recommend and hope to return.
Lovely cottage with everything you need
What a wonderful cottage in a great location with access to everything you would want for a great holiday. The cottage is so cosy and had everything we needed to make a very special weekend great. Will definitely return to this lovely cottage thank you to the owners for allowing others to enjoy this place:)
A cosy home from home
Deceptively spacious cottage with everything we needed for a family holiday come rain or shine. Great town location very handy for takeaways, quick coffees out and play park very close. The access path is narrow so had to be extra vigilant with little ones but lovely compact secure back gaden gave all the space required. Some thoughtful touches such as welcome tray and games and DVDs were very much appreciated. Highly recommnded.
A cottage that has everything
Perfectly located, one can walk into Wareham for shopping etc.Getting the paper in the morning is a 5 minute walk.
Go out in the evening for a meal and not worry about the car.
Loads to do in the area a nd then return to a perfect snug cottage with all amenities
Very comfortable, well equipped cottage with super view from front door and delightful back garden.
This is the nicest cottage we have stayed in in Wareham. The rooms are all very light and tastefully decorated. The kitchen is well equipped and there is plenty of room for preparing meals. It is also very nice to have a separate dining room with its big window looking on to the garden. The sitting room is very comfortable to sit in and the bedrooms are a good size with comfortable beds.
The back garden is a particular delight with its very imaginative planting for interest at any time of the year. And finally the view from the gravel path as you walk along towards the cottage is a real bonus.
We had am amazing week despite the weather. Cottage was amazing, the best we have ever stayed in. Lovely comfy beds, sofas that were foxy and an oven that actually cooks. Lovely and quiet, spacious and light. Would highly recommend.
Comfortable and beautiful cottage
Westport cottage is very comfortable, homely, fully equipped and ideally situated to explore the Purbeck area. Tastefully decorated so the originals features are still visible, the family were able to fully relax and enjoy the comfort of this cottage upon returning from a busy day exploring the beautiful country side. Clean, well maintained and thoughtfully presented. We also enjoyed a BBQ in the small but lovely garden. Only negative was the thin curtains in the front bedrooms which meant the rooms were lit up by the light outside the house and the security lights from the offices opposite. In the summer, you have no choice but to wake with the 5am dawn! A night blind similar to the back bedroom one would help restful sleep. Otherwise we would highly recommend this delightful cottage for a super holiday home.
Response from owner: Thank you for your review, we were very sorry to hear of the 'light' issue but glad you enjoyed your holiday; as a result of your feedback we have now had blackout blinds fitted to deal with this.
Couldn't wish for a better cottage
We had a lovely week in Westport Cottage.
The cottage was is a beautiful location and walking distance to all of the amenities of Wareham (I would recommend the local butcher and bakers).
It was very clean, tastefully decorated and had everything we needed (and more).
quiet location, charming cottage and garden which represents good value for money.
Thoroughly enjoyed holiday cottage and Wareham. A good base with plenty of decent eating places from the Salt Pig at one end of the scale to the Priory, which is a real gem, although you will need to save your penny's as top end of scale.
Wareham is a good location with good bus and train connections to Poole.
Would recommend: Rex cinema (throw back to a byegone era, frequented by old fogies, in consequence, no chatting during film and no mobiles); Pub of Year (forgot name in high street); visit to Tynham (spelling) village (only open at weekends) and circular coastal walk (uphill start) taking in Worget bay, so don't forget Speedo's); boat trip into Poole; Pig on the beach (fine dining) and adjacent Henry's bunker (Churchill and Mongomery viewed prep for D day landings) during the war and so much more....
A perfect place & location
The cottage was so well equipped it had everything you could have wanted & more ! Beautifully furnished it was the perfect base in a great location to enjoy Wareham & explore the surrounding area .
Lovely well kept cottage. Great location with lots to explore nearby
Games to play were useful. House was warm and comfortable. Generally well equipped. Wouldn't recommend if you had limited mobility as stairs quite steep.
A lovely well-equipped cottage
Apart from the tricky gravel path we encountered in the dark, this a well decorated and well equipped cottage in a lovely location. It was very suitable for us as we visited the Swanage steam railway and a family event near Corfe Castle.
Lovely cottage in a lovely area, well worth a visit
Having been before both to Wareham and to Westport Cottage, we were delighted that it was as lovely as ever. The weather was so warm and sunny apart from a short thunderstorm when we visited Corfe!! But we just spent it having a nice cuppa in cafe.
The cottage is set in a peaceful location and feels very warm and welcoming, plenty of room with everything you could need, and with the benefit of 2 bathrooms. We loved the new colour scheme.
So easy to walk into town and the shops and to get the bus. You can leave car behind. This time we were able to get a bus to Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. Try the Purbeck Ice-cream here - yummy. What wonderful places. Swanage such a lovely old-fashioned type of seaside resort but with plenty going on. More ice-cream! And Wareham itself with its market and lovely riverside walks is a delight. Chips down by the quayside - heaven. If you only go out once for evening meal, try the Italian restaurant down by the quayside. Yummy again!
Could say more but suggest you give it a try. You can even get there by train.
Hilary & my good friend Sheila
Once again absolutely brilliant!
Having stayed here before we were looking forward to getting there. It did not disappoint, and once again we had a great week. Lovely and clean, lovely decor (we noticed it had been changed - liked the colour) and plenty of room. It is such a peaceful cottage away from the traffic, but within 5 minutes walking into the town where there is everything you need. We even tried a couple of places to eat in - The Italian Kitchen by the quay is superb. Chips down by the river, can't beat it. We were helped by the warm sunny weather we had. I suppose the only negative is the very narrow path from the road to the cottage, you end up with grass and bits on your cases.
Lovely cottage in quiet location but very close to town centre
Pretty cottage overlooking the Saxon ditch a quarter mile north of Wareham centre. Parking easy although there is a short (100 yard) walk from drop off point. Long stay parking just across the road. Everything worked well including the WiFi, nice little garden to catch the evening sun. Wareham centre is a 3 minute walk away and the position of the cottage means it is really easy to get onto the wider road network to explore further afield. Highly recommended.
Lovely cottage in a delightful setting.
Westport is our favourite Dorset Cottage. The cottage is of a high standard, comfortable and situated in a delightful setting on the edge of Wareham. It is easy to walk into Wareham a lovely small town with lots of little shops and an attractive quay. Studland beach is ideal for the grandchildren, with Swanage, the steam railway and Corfe castle nearby.Other years we have visited Bournemouth /Poole area, this year we visited the Weymouth area.
There is still lots for us to visit and lots of favourite places to revisit. We look forward to coming back to Westport cottage for many years yet! It feels like our second home!
a charming cottage in a nice location
A cosy and welcoming cottage. Which was clean, comfortable and well equipped.
Cosy cottage in great location
Had everything we needed, in quiet location close to town centre. very cosy and comfortable with well equipped kitchen . very organised tourist information in cottage also books and maps. They have thought of everything to make the stay enjoyable. Thank you

charming comfortable cottage, and excellent efficient service from dch
Charming comfortable cottage. The owners had thought of everything for our comfort and convenience. Lovely part of the world, with so much to do for all age groups and interests.
lovely cottage, very comfortable and very well equiped.
good location, very comfortable and warm and we loved it.
Lovely stay in a beautiful characterful cottage. Very well equipped and comfortable. Unique location with easy access to the town. Highly recommended.
The cottage was absolutely lovely!! And although I couldn't work out how to get the heating on (cos the weather changed!) I was promptly helped both by the Dorset Cottage staff and the owner!!
I would certainly return to the cottage and also use Dorset Cottage again. Thank you.
Delightful cosy cottage with private garden, close to amenities in Wareham
Situated on the Saxon walls overlooking a dyke, Westport cottage is lovely & peaceful yet only a couple of minutes walk from Wareham quay and town centre. This character holiday home is welcoming, well-equipped, tastefully & comfortably furnished. It was perfect for our party of five - my parents in their 90s, my husband & myself & my brother.
The weather improved as the week progressed and come the last 3 days I was getting sunburnt!
There is plenty to see and do, rain or shine. We especially enjoyed trips to Brownsea Island, Arne nature reserve and the Blue Lake. Morning coffee & homebaked cookies sitting in the riverside garden of the Priory hotel in Wareham is a recommended treat.
