Church Cottage is an 18th Century Grade II listed, thatched
property with additional, optional detached Garden Cottage
ancillary accommodation, set in an unparalleled location with
outstanding panoramic sea and country views over Studland Bay, Old
Harry Rocks and to the Isle of Wight. Guests can enjoy a
fabulous ocean sunrise from almost every room. A short 50 yard
stroll will take you to South Beach where you can relax all day on
the sandy beach. The Middle
and Knoll beaches are accessed via the cliff top path and the
National Trust car parks adjacent to them. Both are large
sandy, safe beaches. En route you will find "Fort Henry" from where
Churchill and General Eisenhower reviewed the invasion fleet prior
to the D-Day landings in the 2nd World War.
Church Cottage is located in the beautiful and historic village of Studland which hosts many interesting summer events and enjoys perhaps the best sea views to be had. The local area is famous for breath-taking coastal scenery, fabulous countryside walks and interesting and varied attractions. The Isle of Purbeck is predominantly rolling farmland and guests can sample local produce in a generously sized hamper together with a bottle of quality wine from the owner's cellar, provided for your arrival. Within a 5 minute stroll of the village shop/P.O there is a fully equipped, 1 acre children's play park to suit all ages. The Village Hall and adjacent Social Club are open to guests (as non-members).
This holiday home, steeped in history is believed to be the original parsonage to the 11th century St. Nicholas Church prior to the construction of the Georgian Rectory. George Bernard Shaw is believed to have stayed here. His cigar lighter was found in the cottage during restoration.
Church Cottage standing in nearly an acre of grounds, when booked with the Garden Cottage, offers two attractive beamed reception rooms with open fireplaces, one being an inglenook with original bread oven. The contemporary fitted kitchen with adjacent utility room offers guests modern conveniences in this traditional ironstone cottage. In addition, on the ground floor there is a bright, large welcoming and comfortable conservatory with 4 armchairs, refectory table & 6 chairs. There is also a cloakroom with beach shower. On the first floor there is a study/library area with TV, card & games table (games included) along with four bedrooms (one en-suite) and the family bathroom. I counted seven window seats from which to enjoy the fabulous views to the sea and surrounding gardens and countryside.
Guests can on request book the use of a deep water yacht mooring.
NB. If the Garden Cottage is booked with Church Cottage, in this instance the Garden Cottage rental will be reduced by 5%.
Facilities: 4 Bedrooms: F/F king, dbl, 2 x twin, 1 child's Z-bed available on request. Lounge fully furnished to seat 8 on a comfortable traditional suite: TV & Home Cinema System, DVD, inglenook fireplace with historic bread oven. Large Kitchen with bamboo floor, Elec. oven & ceramic hot plate, microwave, American style fridge freezer, w-machine, condenser t-drier, dishwasher, breakfast room. Dining Room for formal dining (8 seats). Bathrooms: G/F Shower Room, F/F family bathroom full suite and shower over bath, en-suite shower room.
