The Old Rectory 50.684866, -2.110555 The Old Rectory.WarehamBH20 4LQWareham, Dorset. (Directions)

Set in a commanding position, just a few steps from the River Frome, in the pretty town of Wareham, The Old Rectory is a luxury self-catering Georgian House which is fit for royalty.  The outstanding home dates back to 1720, then partially rebuilt after the Great Fire of Wareham in the 1760's for the Rector John Hutchins.  Home to the Rectors of Wareham, Reverend Hutchins is perhaps the most famous for his literary work "The History and Antiquities of the County of Dorset", which but for the quick thinking of the pastors wife would have been lost to history in the Great Fire.  She is purported to have stood in the nearby River Frome for the duration of the fire to save his works.

The Old Rectory flaunts an amaranthine quality with its beautiful Georgian façade, vintage walled garden and period interior décor.  The Old Rectory offers a unique retreat in the heart of Saxon Dorset.  It is an authentic piece of history within a delightful walled garden, offering privacy to its guests.  The garden is secure when the imposing driveway gates are closed (except for small dogs).  Bearing the historic blue plaque, this former rectory has now been turned into a luxury self-catering holiday home.  Make cherished memories in beautiful Dorset at this exceptional retreat in the Saxon walled town of Wareham.

Enjoy a lay in, in one of the light and airy bedrooms. Layered in crisp white linens, sumptuous throws and plumped pillows. Step into the luxury en suite shower room for steamy showers post wilderness walks, or enjoy a soak in the feature roll top bath in the luxury family bathroom.  A homely, traditional period style kitchen forms part of the open-plan culinary experience centred around the beautiful 4-oven Aga.  The house is also equipped with a fridge, freezer, washing machine and a dishwasher. There's ample parking on the gated driveway.

Occupying an idyllic spot just outside of the town centre and a minutes' walk away from brunch overlooking Wareham Quay.  Great British walks start immediately from the front door; in springtime, spot kingfishers on the river bank, walk through leafy woodland and enjoy gourmet picnics in buttercup-filled meadows. In colder months, pack a map and compass and tread through magical snow-cloaked fields. Watch a summer sunrise over the ruins Corfe Castle, casting mysterious shadows over the landscape which inspired William Barnes and Thomas Hardy.   Enjoy the bucolic beauty of the Purbeck landscape on your doorstep.

New Cottage for 2019

A BEAUTIFUL HOUSE FULL OF HISTORY
A beautiful house full of history, comfortable, with plenty of space, real rustic features and a great place for a family holiday.

A beautiful, welcoming home which is well situated in the centre of Wareham.
We were delighted with the accommodation provided by the Old Rectory. It is well equipped and proved to be ideal for our needs (5 adults plus one dog). There was certainly room for four more adults. It is a charming property which met our requirements once we’d mastered the Aga. That didn’t take long.

Wonderful house
We had a fantastic time in this wonderful house. After the initial shock of no electric kettle or toaster we ended up enjoying the again and even managed a roast dinner. The children loved everything about it and couldn't wait for bathtime in the bath with the lights! We hope to return!

Wunderbar
The old Rectory is a wonderful location for relaxing holidays.
