Thatched Holiday Cottage in Dorset

Dorset is perhaps most famous for its chocolate box thatched cottage. They line pretty country lanes and feature heavily in Dorset’s villages. Great strides have been made in renovating these pretty cottages, whilst maintaining traditional features such as cob walls. Thatching cottages, goes back hundreds of years and you will find cottages in Dorset that are over 300 years old. Thatching is well a preserved art form, with over 20 members listed on the Dorset Master Thatchers Association website.

Have you ever visited the famous village of Milton Abbas?  This pretty village is made up of a picturesque line of white cob cottages with pristine front garden and traditional thatched roof.  In 1780 the first Earl of Dorchester decided the village of Middleton was blocking his view – so he moved it and created the pretty village of Milton Abbas.

Here at Dorset Cottage Holidays, we are blessed to represent several fine examples of a thatched Dorset holiday cottage.  Steeped in history, you really cant beat the charm of these stunning cottages, which often boast a rip-roaring woodburner.
